About Armen Edgarian (Armen John)

As a Los Angeles–based artist and Pratt Institute graduate, I leverage my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and Computer Graphics to explore the intersections of urban decay, abstraction, and perception. My visual language draws inspiration from both modernist abstraction and the compositional rigor of the old masters, merging classical sensibilities with contemporary experimentation, while infusing my own distinct vision and emotional connection to the craft.

Through the integration of diverse media, I push the boundaries of traditional photography to create work that not only inspires but also evokes a sense of possibility. The resulting images are meditations on impermanence — they are not merely records of place, but reflections on how perception itself constructs meaning.

My practice is rooted in transforming overlooked urban spaces into compositions that challenge conventional notions of beauty and representation. In these spaces, I find quiet poetry and inspiration, guiding my gaze and compelling me to see the ordinary in a new way. I translate these observations into abstract, visually compelling compositions that reflect both the tangible and ephemeral qualities of the urban environment.

Ultimately, my work aspires to reorient how we perceive the city: not as a backdrop of decline, but as a living canvas of transformation, resilience, and possibility. Each image invites viewers to pause, look deeper, and rediscover poetry in the ordinary, revealing that beauty often resides where we least expect it — in art, in relationships, and in the spaces we inhabit.
